Couch Crushing, Part 4,372

After two years of subsequent couch destruction by our precious Mabel, one might think that we would give up, let her run amok. Nope, we're super strict about discipline. Stop laughing.

This morning, I discovered Mabel this way. See the look of shame on her face? Yeah, me neither.

As all good pet-parents should, we sprung into action. Matt explained the rules. Again. She understood, even glancing back at me in sorrow. Do you see how sorrowful she is?

Yeah, me neither.

Fast forward five minutes later and what do we have? Mabel once again sleeping atop Mount-Awful-Couch and me yelling. Have I said this before? Because I'm pretty sure I have, but just to reiterate: I want a new couch.

AH! I have a friend with a dog exactly like that and guess what her name is? You guessed it - MABEL! The dog..not the friend. :)

Thats too funny. Lilly is stubborn like that too. But how can you get mad at that face?

If you can yell or even talk sternly to a dog with a face as cute as that, you must be the world's biggest meaney!!

fun stuff. yes...a new couch...but then won't she sit atop the new couch? quite possibly, but you will still have a new couch.

How can you say no to that face?!

Mabel is just too cute!!!! Stella has that same face when she is in trouble. If I talk firm to her she just rolls over with paws in the air and just lays there.

LOL>..they do it cause they are just to cute to get into any real trouble...and who could be mad at that face for long...not me

Our smallest dog, Dooley, has the same habit. Our couch cushions are permanently squished. That Mabel is too cute, and she looks so remorseful, NOT!

Awww, at least she's not an 80 pound golden retriever. ;) Great blog ... just happened upon it today, going to explore more of your posts ...

Looks like Mabel has claimed the couch. Just as well give it up, Liz. The back of our soft-cushioned couch has always been Sophie's perch. Our cleaning lady fusses and fusses at her, but Sophie just ignores her. I've decided I'd rather have a happy dog and a messy sofa that the other way round.

Ah yes, I can see why you would be frustrated. But at the same time, that face - Mabel is such a cutie.

I was worried about the same thing when we bought our couch. Our back cushions are a little more sturdy, but I was still concerned that I would come home and see two cats perched on sagging cushions. Luckily that hasn't happened yet. The key word here is yet *crosses fingers*

My Allie Girl crushes the whole couch here.....and not to mention the "slobber" stains.:)

But she's my baby, so I don't say anything.....I just have to apologize to my parents when they come over and get dog hair on their clothes and ask, "What is this wet spot?";)

I think Mabel's sweet little face may be interfering with her discipline. How can you yell at that? I think you deserve a new couch.

I really shouldn't laugh, but it's so hard not to. My puppy loves the top of the couch, she can see and therefore rule over everything beneath her... and it's so cushy and soft...

blazedanielle said...

Haha!! What a cutie! :) I think all pups just know where the most comfortable spot in the room is! :)

I share your pain. My dogs, Bailey and Murphy actually have their own couch now in their own room. Yes, they have their own little room off my kitchen! Nope, not spoiled at all! Great post! Mabel is so adorable.

Can't help it, you made me chuckle. Oops.
Your little Mabel is just too cute and she has warmed my heart through and through.
Hope you have a lovely day and fingers crossed for that new sofa.

aw, she is too cute. Phoebe is the same way - we are currently trying to keep her off the leather ottoman in the living room. how can we say no to them??
on a random note, I just put a ton of photos up on the blog, and I am in desperate need of ideas for wall decor.... come help!

Tricia said...

LOL! She really is just like a kid!

Trixie said...

Now why would you need a new couch? This one is obviously extremely comfortable and you have that really, really cute pillow who lives on top of the other pillows. I'd keep it. It suits her well.

I like your couch when it is crushed, I think it looks pretty. You can tell Mabel from me!

I've left you an award on my blog! :D

Mabel knows the rule -- she just thinks its stupid to deny her the comfort. We had a border collie named Pepper that was NOT to be on the couch. She would sleep there every night and afternoon when we weren't home. It was hilarious when I'd get up in the middle of the night to get a drink and she would see me. She would slink off the couch quietly and jump up onto the "her" chair hoping that I would think that is where she had been all the time. Our daughter said that she thought Pepper just thought that she wasn't supposed to be on the couch while we were in the room. Baloney. And when you would shake your finger at her and she would look up at you with those big brown eyes -- well you know the story. Give up -- we never did but it was a waste of time.
However, if you want to save that lovely quilt that is in the picture from dog hair you can send it to me -- we are without a dog right now. (Pepper and that couch were together for 18 years).

My dog is always on the couch. He is a lab. Pup hair everywhere. He thinks he rules the house.

Laugh, the saga continues...

Milo just started doing this with our sofa. Brand new chocolate brown velour. Little tiny kitty hairs everywhere. They truly are to cute to get mad at. Especially when you discover what they are doing and they freeze and give you the "I didn't do it" stare - laugh. To cute.

Thanks for the sweet message about scrap booking. Funny thing I didn't have any time to do this either until one day I looked in my art room and discovered if I ever wanted to see the floor again I would have to start using the supplies and pictures I've been saving.

Take Care,
Lisa

Thanks for the canvas thought! I thought about doing that the other day, but all my tablecloths are pinks and purples and wouldn't work in that room...shucks, looks like I will have to hit up some antique stores. Oh, the horror!

I'm so glad that someone else has a constant love-hate relationship with dogs and couches. I'm constantly shooing my two bulldogs off the couch while my husband is right behind me encouraging them to rest in the solitude of pillows. Love your blog, I'll be bag often.

Cute post. I love Mabel!

yeah, she looks like shes really scared of you, liz! my kitty use to be just the same way as soon as i turned my back he would be up where he knew he wasnt allowed but since he didnt weigh as much as mabel does (im obviously not refering to fatty) my couch is still in good shape.

ann said...

get yourself a couch, girl, and let Mabel have hers to herself.

JanaBanana said...

OH THE HORROR *giggle*

Chandra said...

But she looks so comfortable! You know, even when you do get a new couch you're going to have to keep that one somewhere for Mabel...

That first picture made me laugh, her face looks much more "Back off, lady" than shameful!

I love Mabel...that sweet face! Just know that you are not alone in with you "Couch Crushing" situation. I have two cats who insist on doing the same thing...white denim slipcovers...black cats. They insist on compounding the problem by throwing up cat food/hairballs down onto the seats of Sheila

Tanya said...

Ah, I just like any post with cute Mabel in it! I know how it is...you are dead set against them wrecking the cushions, until their cute little face innocently looks at you wondering why you would ever ask them to move? Your heart melts and the cushions are theirs, lol!

That couch is as good as hers!

Eloise said...

I can't imagine anyone with a face that cute doing anything wrong. Sorry. I side with Mabel on this one.

{wink}

Barb said...

Oh Mabel. Why must you test your mommy so?

If it's any consolation, she does look cute on the couch. And her fur does match it quite nicely.

Love that quilt, by the way. Did you make it?

Twyla and Lindsey said...

Don't yell at Mabel anymore. She's too sweet! Whatever she wants to do is okay. Twyla

I have pretty much that same couch and also want a new one.LOL but my family keeps telling me how comfy it is. I guess it will be staying a while longer.

Boy did I ever need a laugh this morning, and did you ever give me one. It is clear who rules the roost...and sister it ain't you.

Shelia said...

Look at that little precious! You know Mabel is Chloe Dawn's cousin and she wanted me to tell Mabel, she really understands. She loves to bounce all over the furniture, but she has learned to stay off Mommy's sofa! Poor little sweet darling! They can be frustrating, but we love 'em to death, don't we?
You and Mabel be sweeties today,
Shelia :)

I am absolutely with you. You should get a new couch. You deserve a new couch and when you do get one you can post photos of how cute Mabel looks on IT! :-)

Her fan club anxiously awaits.

Megan said...

ooh, i would have a hard time not smooshing that face with kisses, and rubbing that belly shamelessly.

Then again, dicipline was not my strong point with my dog. :)

Mabel looks so comfy...how could you not let that sweet little face sleep on the couch. :)
