I love when the early morning air is hazy, the trees outside a rich green and the light in the house almost magical. The world seems quiet and the day ahead filled with all kinds of possibilities. I want nothing more than to sit at the breakfast table with a cup of coffee and a notebook and look forward to a few uninterrupted hours to write and dream.

The saddest aspect of being part of the working world is losing mornings. I realized this today, as I spent my favorite part of the day fixing my hair, ironing a skirt, running around yelling about lost keys. I've lost my mornings.
One day I'll get them back. But until then, I'll live it up on Saturdays. Long live the weekend!

Liz, I know EXACTLY how you feel! I loong for the days I can stay home and enjoy my early mornings.
I love all your pottery, are they McCoy?
you won! ive awarded you i love your home accent photos and of course your book. oh, and i cant forget mabel, id give her a milkbone if i could because dogs dont really get into awards unless you can eat it.
I'm with ya there! Early mornings are wonderful, but not wonderful at all when you are running around trying to get ready for work. I like the slow, lazy, relaxing mornings when you can stretch out and ENJOY it. :)
I too love the quiet peace of early morning...but due to stress..I'm staying up late...and sleeping in later...and missing all that peace...maybe that's my problem...hmmm...btw...love those blue items
i totally feel your pain. I can't really remember when I wasn't working or going to school, but I dream of a future where I can get up and do something I love just because I love it.
Yes, long live Saturday mornings...which unfortunately go by too fast when you are working the weekdays. I have been in your "where the heck are my keys" mode too many times...but fortunately I am able to take a break and work at home for awhile now. For some reason, the keys are not lost anymore. Maybe I never really WANTED to find them before. LOL
:0)

I know exactly what you are saying. I feel that way too. I so envy my husband, who can walk to work in five min., while I have an hour drive ahead of me. I'm so looking forward to retirement, is it too early to do that?
These are my 'pause' moments. I just stop and think of how grateful I am for these perfect, peaceful moments. I guess it sucks having to get up and lop off to work (I get to work at 6 a.m.), but at the same time, without it, I wouldn't have those moments of pure peace. I love those moments! Thanks for the post!
Mornings are by far my favorite time of the day. I'm so very lucky to have three months to freely enjoy the early hours. I wish I could send some your way!
Oh, drool!!! Pottery envy!
Me too, with the mornings.
Aw, so pictureque! I see your mind of the sweet morning - then BOOM! - you're off! I feel truly blessed that I can stay home and enjoy my mornings. Your day will come, darling!
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Liz, I'm a night person and HATE when the Cottage Master is so chatty in the morning. I just want to not talk (who me? not talk? no, impossible). BUT, eleven weeks from now I'll become a stay-at-home wife again. I'm retiring from this 8 to 5 job.
FYI -- I tried to purchase a piece similar to the one on the right hand side of your shelf at an estate sale recently. They wanted $80 for it -- out of my price range.

Lovely photos!! They are so cute!! And yes, I love mornings too, but often overlooked. I hope you have a fantastic weekend, and I wanted to let you know that I'm having a wee contest over at the blog! Come see!
Cute shelves! I like to color combo going on there.
Also, I wish I could share your outlook on mornings...After 2-3 cups of coffee its starts to look up though!
oh liz! you captured my thoughts! it is the morning i desire most when i think of each day.
how i have transformed from being such a night owl in my younger days to thriving on the quiet of the morning. it is worth waking up a little earlier every time i can just to let the morning seep in.
glorious mornings and to someday having them back!
I love the blue pots on the shelf Liz. Let me guess vintage garage sale shopping?
I understand that completely! Personally I enjoy sleeping in but the mornings are so peaceful.
Thanks for your comments!
This makes me want to be home in the mornings too. I feel like I miss out on such a beautiful part of the day - and how much I could enjoy it if it didn't begin with an alarm clock telling me I must away to work!
I love the pretty things on your shelf too!
I love mornings too. Especially the ones where you can sleep, drink lots of coffee, lots of reading...Your displays are so pretty.
Early morning is my favorite time of day. I love to get up before anyone else and just sit and take it all in. Then, everyone awakes and chaos begins...
Thanks for sharing your peaceful thoughts!
Liz..
As long as you don't lose your mind.
Great pottery...I have two of the pieces that you own - the two on the right McCoy/Brush. I use to collect them like crazy..back in the day when they were .50 cents and a quarter at sales...then Martha stepped in and yikes!!
ride bikes
Liz, I just had to pop back in to tell you how I love that picture of you and your hubby, it's just precious!
Continue to be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Amen, Sister!! Gotta love weekend mornings:)
My husband says Dacula like Dracula:) It would be cool. My grandmother used to live in Transylvania County in North Carolina. Now that was cool.
I forgot to mention that I LOVE the strawberry shortcake lunchbox! Was it yours?
You couldn't have said it better... why are we working?! Do we truly love our jobs and being a "career" woman... or would we much rather be stay at homers and enjoy hot fresh coffee and morning shows, blogging for a living... gym memberships (that we actually use)... so on and so on...
Longing for tomorrow morning!!!!!
Love your shelves. The Strawberry Shortcake lunchbox is too cute!
I love how you incorporated the turquoise blues with red on your shelf...that's like my fave color combo right now.
ooh lookie it's strawberry shortcake!!!
You have such fabulous taste!!
i love , love your pottery! the colors, the shapes the arrangement! every detail of it!
i do understand about losing your mornings. i think i would wither on the vine if i didn't have my mornings to be myself before i have to go out into the world and be who other people need me to be.
And the bottom line is, Liz, that I love your new profile picture. Such happiness. Forget those lost mornings, in this picture you seem to have it all!
Love,
Dawn
I love your collection of pottery (especially the color). Early mornings can be heavenly. Sorry to hear you are going to miss them.
Hi Liz! Because you have such a great blog...I have a surprise for you on mine. Pop on over for a visit when you get a chance...
Jillian
I love your home, your pictures, your words. You have such a great blog...and I have so much to catch up on!!!
You will get them back Liz.
Maybe sooner than later.
Great pictures!!
I hope you had a wonderful weekend!
Rosemary
PS, I love my mornings too!!
Good morning, Liz. I remember those days.
I've enjoyed catching up with you. I published my 200th post yesterday, with a little giveaway included. When you have a minute, come on by for details!
Have a great week!
Pat
Oh, I love your decor. Very light and airy.
I have a really hard time leaving for work in the morning. The birds have taken to darting in and out of the honeysuckle vine on my fence. I'd much rather watch them than my coworkers darting in and out of their offices.
Thanks for stopping by my blog.
My sister has a Strawberry Shortcake lunch box just like that! Aaaww!
I love mornings so much, I get up early to spend time with my blogging friends or read and take a leisurely bath.
this is my favorite time of day, too -
I love evenings, but mornings are a different kind of magic.
If it's any consolation, four little boys tend to have the same effect on mornings. They are not quiet reflective times. They are loud and caked with milky cereal globs on cheeks and tables, that eventually (if not cleaned up immediately) into dangerous pucks that could do bodily harm when thrown if, that is, you can actually manage to scrape them off of the table with a putty knife.
"eventually harden into dangerous pucks." That's what I meant to say. But I left out an all important verb.
((sigh))
