Matt's going to be unhappy with this post. Whenever I post about him he gets, well, embarrassed. I don't blame him. He lives in a home where everything from a new lamp to the soup we eat is fodder for the blog. But this is too good. I had to tell it.
We were recently watching The Breakup. I have been a fan of Jennifer Aniston since I first copied her haircut The Rachel in 9th grade. And suddenly, I was very curious.
"I cant believe Brad Pitt left her. She's adorable."
Matt nodded, probably once again wishing I'd watch a movie in silence (which is, by the way, never going to happen).
"Who do you think is prettier? Jennifer Aniston or Angelina Jolie?"
Now secretly, I was rooting for Jennifer. Don't we all? Angelina is a husband stealer. And it doesn't help that she's breathtakingly stunning. Husband stealer + gorgeous + my inability to lose five pounds = I heart Jennifer.
But I honestly thought I knew the answer. All men love Angelina. This was, as they say, a Matt test. I'm not proud of it, but it's a wife thing.
But I honestly thought I knew the answer. All men love Angelina. This was, as they say, a Matt test. I'm not proud of it, but it's a wife thing.
"That's easy. Jennifer Aniston," he stated simply.
I grinned, "Really?"
He nodded calmly, still watching the movie, "It all goes back to Gilligan's Island. There are two categories: Gingers and Mary Anns. Angelina is a Ginger and Jennifer is a Mary Ann. I prefer Mary Ann."
"You mean like when Elizabeth Taylor stole Debbie Reynold's husband? Elizabeth Taylor was a Ginger and Debbie Reynolds a Mary Ann?"
"Yep," he agreed, "and Debbie Reynolds was cuter."
I snuggled down in my quilt, already mentally awarding him big brownie points. Because let's face it, us average girls have a way better chance of being a Mary Ann than a Ginger.
In other news, we had these for dinner and they were delicious, not to mention super easy.
Tomato Nests
4 ripe tomatoes
4 large eggs
4 tbsp heavy cream
4 tbsp grated Parmesan cheese salt and pepper to taste
1. Preheat oven to 350. Cut a slice off tops of the tomatoes and, using a teaspoon, carefully scoop out the pulp and seeds without piercing the shells. Turn the tomato shells upside down on paper towels and let drain for 15 minutes. Season the insides of the shells with salt and pepper.
2. Place the tomatoes in an ovenproof dish just large enough to hold them in a single layer. Carefully break 1 egg into each tomato shell, then top with 1 tbsp of cream and 1 tbsp of grated cheese.
3. Bake in preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the eggs are set. Serve hot.

Totally cool husband, your Matt.
Thank goodness there are guys who still like Mary Anns!! And I think everyone had the Rachel haircut -- I know I did! Is it bad that I still think it's kinda cute?! :)
Matt rules.
Hi Liz ~ I'd have to agree with you and Matt...I think Jennifer is way cuter than Angelina. Honestly, I don't think she's beautiful at all...too big lips and yes, she's a husband stealer!
Hugz,
Michele
YAY MATT!!! Jennifer is so much better! And let's face it, anyone who has half the female population copying her every hair move is way better than Fish Lips.
It's a good thing he said Jennifer! I never have liked Angelina....who wears blood in your necklace and makes-out with your brother on stage? Come on!
Your recipe looks delish! I would have to substitute the heavy cream for maybe 1/2 and 1/2. Really, I should use skim milk.....that kinda ruins the whole thing doesn't it?
My husband and I had this same conversation not too long ago - he also chose Jennifer!!!
When I tried The Rachel the hairdresser I went to didn't tell me that my very wavy/curly (weird combo) hair wouldn't actually do that style...and she cut it too short. So, I went through 9th grade at my new school looking like Ringo Starr. It was terrible. I had the same haircut as my algebra teacher.
Go Team Aniston!
I love Jennifer and if I swung that way I'd definitely prefer her. Plus she's a Waldorf girl which I feel an affinity for. Brad and Jennifer came through the island I live on while they were married and it was the talk of the town. Of course I only heard about it weeks after it happened but I still got excited at walking down the same sidewalk they walked down.
Hey thanks for the sweet comment on my blog!!!
I was reading some of you posts and I laughed and laughed!!! Your post "Reproduction Circus" really was good fun!!!! I have been the Mom who is fighting witht the strong willed toddler in the frozen food section. I am feeling the pressure from my husband and everyone else around that I need to have another kid...I am not ready but everyone else thinks that I should be!!!! Anyway, thanks for your post it made me smile.
Those tomatoes look AWESOME!! Is Matt a certified chef, because it sure seems like it!
Oh, and Marsh feels that Jennifer is also the better-looking one. I love when our men and understand us like this!
lol1 Yes! Lot's of brownie points.
We both think Jennifer is prettier than Angelina.
Oh, and I too had the RAchael haircut. LOL
he's a keeper.
i think they are a bit intimidated by the gingers of the world....even if they would never admit it.
do you like that movie? i watch it all the time. i love the chicago setting. and vince vaughn. honestly i'd choose him over brad pitt....similar to the ginger/maryann thing. can you imagine all the product and beauty junk that brad goes through to look so i-just-got-out-of-bed-and-i-look-this-smoking=hot-every-second. i doubt vince has any beauty products. vince vaughn could make you laugh all day long.
big points for matt.
You are one lucky girl to have such a great husband ;)
I love that - great answer Matt!!
I'm sorry, but I like Angelina.. I do, it's hopeless I know.
Those tomatoes look loooovely.
Matt sounds like good (and very smart) people to me.;)
We have had that same conversation in our house MANY times before as well. It also included the Flinstones question Wilma or Betty? Followed, of course, by The Archies...Veronica or Betty?;)
And like your sweet hubby..mine also said Jennifer Aniston...but I will tell you...that when Angelina is on the teevee....I've caught him looking.
I'm just saying.;)
Big hugs,
Amy:)
P.S. I finished New Moon. Oh. My. Goodness. LOVED IT! So now I am just sitting here waiting for the mailman to bring me Eclipse and Breaking Dawn. Not that I am stalking him or anything...just patiently waiting.;)
Now if Mr. Nice Guy Matt also cooked you that dinner....
he IS a real winner
(but you already knew that!)
im fat
Ya know, it's true. There are the Gingers. There are the Mary Annes. Hmmmm. Interesting!
I have to say, if I was a dude, I would be after the Angelina's. I don't know why. I think Jennifer is very pretty, too.
It's funny that a previous poster mentioned Vince Vaughn vs. Brad Pitt. I'd take Vince any day. Brad Pitt is just too....pretty.
Your husband is awesome. Good thing we don't all have to be Gingers.
I'm liking your hubby a LOT!
I'm pretty sure my guy would pick Jennifer, but I'll have to do the test with him tonight. Let's see if he passes!
Too sweet. I heart Jennifer, too - I didn't have the hair, but I had the Rachel story. I heart Friends, too.
The tomatoes look yummy and the ingredients will be bought my next shopping trip!
PS - Like the new profile info!!! Can't wait to read your next novel!
Hi Liz,
oh that was so cute! I can never tell which one a man will pick, we all know who Brad picked :) but I love Jennifer too, but also think Angelina is stunning and all those kids?, wow, lol...oh well ;) and yummy to the food, Im hungry now ;)
Thanks for sharing your great talents, I love every post!!
~ Hugs ~ Cynthia
aw, how cute is that.
My hubby fails that test, he wants them both! :) Those tomatoes have me drooling. Oh, yummy. What a great way to have the not so great post summer tomatoes that are in the stores now.
Is it ok that I just fell in love with your husband?
:)
Yeah, my husband is in love with (metaphorically speaking) Angelina. I don't see the attraction. I am def. a Jennifer girl. We have these convos way too often I'm afraid.
Glad Matt's such a great hubby! Although, I was a little sad, I glanced at the heading and thought I was going to be greeted with photos and a recipe for Big Brownies!
But that's just the chocaholic in me.
Awwwww, Matt is so sweet and smart!
tomatoes look yummy. I will have to try it.
take care,
Lisa
OK yeah he is definitely a keeper!!!!!!
My hubby is a Jennifer/Mary Ann kind of guy too. Woohoo for awesome husbands.
God bless the Mary Anns.
Way to go husband! I'm team Aniston too.
Yummm...those tomato nests looks so delish and easy too. Will have to try them out this week. Thanks.
My husband likes Jennifer better too! He can't stand Angelina- even before she became a husband stealer. He says she looks "odd" and is "ugly" ...
I LOVE HIM!
Your husband is obviously Mr. Wonderful. : )
My Dear Hubby always refers to Jennifer as "My girlfriend"...and is still upset with Brad Pitt...LOL
And you are NOT an average gal! Above average is more like it...
Jillian
Mmmm..that recipe looks great and I will be anxious to try it! Cute story too...loved thinking about Ginger's and Mary Ann's...Angelina and Jennifer...I too am rooting for Jennifer! :-)
Ok, those tomatoes look yummy! And yes, Rachel is WAY hotter than Angelina... for several reasons, but I (and I know I'm not the one that matters) don't even think she's all that attractive. She should lay off the lip injections :)
Looks delicious and easy!
Good for him, picking Jennifer!
I had the Jennifer hair cut too, I'd consider getting it again if it wasn't so attached to her and that time frame! My wavy mop worked well with it.
Matt is fantastic. :)
Team Mary Ann All the way..
and team Aniston..lol.
I had the haircut too. I think everyone I know did..lol.
Those tomato nest look super yummy.
Aww, man..that is too cute.
Gotta love that hubby, Lizziness! He's a keeper and I love your recipe. Be a sweetie,
Shelai :)
Cute story, I'm actually amazed you 2 know all about Gilligan's Island. That's from MY day! LOL Must have been the reruns.
I'm so happy he said Mary Ann too!
I knew my husband was the man for me when we happened by a Miss America beauty pagent while channel surfing and he said, "eeewwwww, her thighs don't touch, that's gross!" Oh, love!
And here I thought Angelina was every man's (and woman's) celebrity crush. LOL
the tomatoes look sooo good!
Those egg nests look realllllllllllllly yummy! I think the good guys know they can lust over an Angelina, but that the Jennifers are the type to settle down with :)
My husband is also a Mary Ann lover...only the object of his affections is Sandra Bullock who is another "girl next door" type. I think most guys choose a Mary Ann over a Ginger for the long haul. The Gingers of the world come with too much baggage I think!
Sheila from west Michigan
These comments are cracking me up! Jennifer had my vote from DAY ONE! She's the girl next door.....ANgelina...well, she's the Vixen!
Nice to hear a mans perspective....gotta go ask my son and hubbie!
Tell Matt not to be embarrassed...he's probably the ENVY of 3/4 of the women who read your blog!
Yum to the tomatoes:) I love The Breakup! Well, actually I LOVE anything with Vince Vaughn in it! Yum to him too♥♥ There is just something about him!!!
My husband always begs me not to mention him in my blog...he gets hates it!
Hee Hee! I was wandering around with my camera on Sunday, looking for blogging subjects. I turned toward my husband and he quickly said "Don't you dare!". He thinks Rachel Ray is awesome. I think she is in the Mary Ann category! Those tomatoes look awesome!
Blessings,
Lorilee
My guy's a Mary Ann guy, too. Sadly, we have had this conversation. More than once. :-)
Go Team MA!
That meal sounds and looks so good!
Hi Liz,
I totally agree with you. I really don't like Angelina at all. Never did even before she took Brad away.
Matt is the best!!!
PS, Angelina's lips are out of control.
Have a great week. Thanks for the yummy recipe.
Rosemary
What a great blog you have here! Thanks for sharing :)
Personally I don't like Angelina Jolie, But I also heart Jennifer Aniston. Whenever I look at Angelina I think she is a hubby stealer & I like her less & less. I do know that it takes two to tango, but still. I love that your hubby choose Mary Ann. It says what kind of man he is. So here is to all of us who are Mary Anns :)
This post was awesome! My husband and I have had the same conversation! I'm glad I'm not the only one who questions Brad Pitt's choices and adores Jennifer Aniston! Yay for Matt and picking the right woman! :)
He likes cute and he cooks....what a great guy!!
Suzanne
I would rather be a Mary Ann any day! You have a great guy.
Even though Nathan and Matt clearly aren't one in the same...they seriously are SO much alike. This is exactly like multiple exchanges I've had with Nathan, and we watched The Breakup together this weekend, and Nathan has a man cave, and loves video games and prefers Mary Anns...and whoa.
Also, I don't like tomatoes but even so I can appreciate the ease of this recipe! I may have to at least try it the next time I have house guests who do like tomatoes! Want to be my house guest?! ;-)
Exactly!
I am with you on the Mary Ann! SO funny and the tomatoes look awesome. :)
Your husband was so smart to give that answer. :) Good for him! I like Jennifer way better too! Those tomato cups sound so good!
I WAY agree with you and Matt on Jennifer and Mary Ann! I think Angelina has put some major spin on her image, but somewhere underneath that glamour are those hideous tattoos and that girl with the vial of blood around her neck.
You keep ignoring me when I ask if Matt hires out! His dinners always look delicious!
Awwww, I love this post. I love your hubby (although I find Angelina quite beautiful too!)
LOVE the new banner!
I had Rachel hair as well - actually any way you cut my hair it turns out that way (except the do i have now.)
You, girlie, are a Ginger. You are beautiful! You are cute, too, like a Mary Ann, so let's just say you got it goin' on! Your husb sounds sweet. About the Mrs. Pitts - I'm a Jenn fan myself!
Good morning Liz :)
I laughed because that conversation sounded exactly like a few I've had with my hubby Rich. He's a Mary Ann kinda guy too ;)
Oh and thank you for the birthday wishes and the complements (blushing)
rue
HOORAY FOR THE MARY ANNS OF THE WORLD AND THE MEN WHO "GET IT"!!
I love Jennifer Aniston. I just recorded her on Oprah last week. She is adorable! How can anyone not love her??
Team Aniston
:)
Yes, I think we girls are definitely better off with husbands that prefer Mary Ann (which mine does and also J.A.).
Have a great day Liz!!
Yay, Matt!
And I LOVED Rachel's haircut - still do! :)
I went to the same high school as Brad Pitt. Everyone I know thinks his bro is hotter.
My hubby things Angelina is creepy looking. The lips scare him.
That dinner will be made at my house once I can get to the store and get some matoes and Parm. I have a feeling it will be popular around here next summer as well.
Matt is one smart guy and that recipe looks delicious!
Cathie
Maryann rocks! I always totally related way more to Maryann than Ginger. I do have a little Ginger in me, but I am mostly Maryann. I mean come on, who did all the cooking on that show???
:)Sharon
Yep your husband is pretty smart! Now gotta try the recipe. Looks so yummy!
Haha!! This post was hilarious!
Love the Gilligan's Island comparison.
Mary, mom to many and wife to a great guy of my own
