A Roaring Case of Premenstrual Syndrome and a Husband In Line for Sainthood

It was that time of the month. The time when everything around me takes on a flaming glow (perhaps it's just the light I'm emitting with my aura of rage). The time when one bad driver can induce a series of blankety blanks from my otherwise prudish mouth (I'm working hard on this, I really am). This is the time when Matt retreats into his shell for 24 hours and ponders the intelligence in his life choices.

Which is why this particular interaction between the two of us impressed me greatly. It impressed upon me the fact that Matt has mastered the art of telling his wife she's being crazy... in the nicest possible way of course. Here's how it went down.

Me: "Did you take out the trash?"
Matt, visibly nervous: "Yes."
Me: "The trash in the kitchen or just the trash outside?"
Matt, edging toward the door: "All of it."
Me: "Really? Because something stinks to high heaven in here."
Matt, standing halfway out of the door, ready to run: "Listen. However you're being right now..."
Me, silent, hands on hips, eyes flashing with red Rosanne-ish intensity.
Matt: "...can you just... not be this way anymore?"

Message received. Point taken. Taking a deep breath, drinking a root beer and eating chocolate. STAT.

I hear ya. My husband puts up with my 'moods' too. That first picture is cracking me up. I'm glad you posted the second picture to follow b/c the husbands do put up with a lot and we truly do love them even during that time.

LMAO! The joys of womanhood and the crap that we put our men through.

You're both TOO CUTE!! My husband asks, "what day are you on?" Trying to have another little one so I always know what day I'm on and it's his way of asking if I'm getting close. Plus, taking hormones for it and they make me 10 times worse than I was before!!! Poor guy!

Hang in there!

You guys are so stinkin funny! I think Matt & my hubby would THINK they have something in common~ my head really does NOT turn 360, and I do NOT spew forth razor edged words... merely, well refined, articulated thoughts that MUST be followed to the "T" of the Nth degree~ NOW!!! ;-)

I think that it is awesome that you have comments from people that have been together for 20 years or more! It is a testament to who you are as a writer. You have a gift! Poor Matt... :)

Matt must have taught Dan a thing or two, because I have heard that same line before. Loved the stories and the photos made me laugh.

All of a sudden a picture came to my mind of you two, when you are in your 80's. Love, respect, dignity, grace...I think you to have the forever plan down pat.

I have the worst PMS ever! Total b#@!* for one week a month. It's really bad. Irritable, tired, grumpy. 14 years married and I still have to say to my husband "It's that time, cut me some slack!!"

You guys are SO cute, by the way :)

Oh girl, I hear ya.

Mine seems to have gotten more intense as I get older. ??

I do give my husband fair warning though. "Just so you know, I'm very hormonal right now. It might be good to avoid me for the next two days." And he is good with that.

Oh my! Definitely taking my cues from you!

I've had more than my fair share of lashing out lately, and poor Nathan is just as nice as Matt but I don't seem to be as nice as you. *Sigh* Off to eat some ice cream and count slowly to 10 ;-)

P.S. Treated myself to some flea market shopping today, as a way to de-stress. NOT helpful - I wanted everything in the two stores I visited.

Ha-ha. Can you just not be this way? So funny and sweet.

Oh my. I feel terrible now. If only it were for 24 hours. Usually lasts anywhere from 2 - 5 days!!!!

Oh, yeah. That's me today--and I'm a big blubbery crier which just makes the man go: "What'd I do now?"

My hubby's an angel, too. Truly, madly, deeply love him for his endless patience.

Matt should teach classes. I would enroll my husband who famously proclaimed during one of my dark days that I was "acting like my mother..."

Yeah, let me know if Matt's going to offer a class.

You are so funny! I was following your blog but stopped because I feel like I'm following every one in the worlds blog and I don't have time to read them all. But yours is so entertaining to read I think I might have to keep following yours and let someone else go. LOL!
