It was that time of the month. The time when everything around me takes on a flaming glow (perhaps it's just the light I'm emitting with my aura of rage). The time when one bad driver can induce a series of blankety blanks from my otherwise prudish mouth (I'm working hard on this, I really am). This is the time when Matt retreats into his shell for 24 hours and ponders the intelligence in his life choices.
Which is why this particular interaction between the two of us impressed me greatly. It impressed upon me the fact that Matt has mastered the art of telling his wife she's being crazy... in the nicest possible way of course. Here's how it went down.
Me: "Did you take out the trash?"
Matt, visibly nervous: "Yes."
Me: "The trash in the kitchen or just the trash outside?"
Matt, edging toward the door: "All of it."
Me: "Really? Because something stinks to high heaven in here."
Matt, standing halfway out of the door, ready to run: "Listen. However you're being right now..."
Me, silent, hands on hips, eyes flashing with red Rosanne-ish intensity.
Matt: "...can you just... not be this way anymore?"

I hear ya. My husband puts up with my 'moods' too. That first picture is cracking me up. I'm glad you posted the second picture to follow b/c the husbands do put up with a lot and we truly do love them even during that time.
You guys are such a great couple! :)
Cute couple!
sandy toe
LMAO! The joys of womanhood and the crap that we put our men through.
You're both TOO CUTE!! My husband asks, "what day are you on?" Trying to have another little one so I always know what day I'm on and it's his way of asking if I'm getting close. Plus, taking hormones for it and they make me 10 times worse than I was before!!! Poor guy!
Hilarious! You guys are such a cute couple!
That was great!!!
Oh, those photos are so perfect!
You're such a doll! I get really crazy that time of the month and my hubby is usually a saint too, but sometimes he can't take it no more!!! :0) Why oh why did Eve have to take that apple???? You know she's got some 'splain'n to do when we all get up to heaven and meet her!
Hang in there!
Shar
This is hilarious! I am right there with you though and totally know how you feel!
let's just suffice it to say, i can totally relate...i always have to ask my husband to take out the trash. heehehee.
thanks for the good laugh.
happy friday.
Precious! :)
Matt looks like he's trying to bite your ear off in that first picture...hahaha...Oh you two..just wait until you've been married 20 years or more. :) The real fun begins then!
Hee hee, I love that first picture. That sounds about right with me during those raging hormone days. And even on normal days sometimes!
My husband is in line for sainthood. He's reeeeeeealllly gonna earn it too. :)
Ha ha, love this post!
Cuuuute pictures :) Chocolate cures most things that ail a girl.
You've got a prize there!
hehehehe.. you both such a funny couple and great together!
you are so cute and you two are adorable!!=)
I love the first picture because you look cute even when you're cranky. :) lol
Of all the fantastic photos you post, I think these two are my new favorite! :D
As far as mood swings: I.don't.know.what.you.are.talking.about. I am ALWAYS perfectly sane. Yes I AM.
You guys are so stinkin funny! I think Matt & my hubby would THINK they have something in common~ my head really does NOT turn 360, and I do NOT spew forth razor edged words... merely, well refined, articulated thoughts that MUST be followed to the "T" of the Nth degree~ NOW!!! ;-)
That is so funny and so true from many of us!!!!! I think I am starting to go through the pre-menopausal crap....what fun :(
what would we do without rootbeer and chocolate?? My hubby knows not skip over them if they are on the list.
I think that it is awesome that you have comments from people that have been together for 20 years or more! It is a testament to who you are as a writer. You have a gift! Poor Matt... :)
I love it...my husband could use a few pointers from Matt!:)
So funny!!!!
And I laughed at that first photo :-)
Love the two pictures. It made me laugh and pretty closely reflects my interactions with my own Hubby! Too funny.
Matt must have taught Dan a thing or two, because I have heard that same line before. Loved the stories and the photos made me laugh.
Oh, dear Liz, you have a gift for tellin' it like it is. ;)
All of a sudden a picture came to my mind of you two, when you are in your 80's. Love, respect, dignity, grace...I think you to have the forever plan down pat.
hehehehehe.... Same thing here, but now Rich is dealing with two of us. It's not pretty.
Have a great weekend!
hugs,
rue
I have the worst PMS ever! Total b#@!* for one week a month. It's really bad. Irritable, tired, grumpy. 14 years married and I still have to say to my husband "It's that time, cut me some slack!!"
You guys are SO cute, by the way :)
Cute pics!
Oh girl, I hear ya.
Mine seems to have gotten more intense as I get older. ??
I do give my husband fair warning though. "Just so you know, I'm very hormonal right now. It might be good to avoid me for the next two days." And he is good with that.
Oh my! Definitely taking my cues from you!
I've had more than my fair share of lashing out lately, and poor Nathan is just as nice as Matt but I don't seem to be as nice as you. *Sigh* Off to eat some ice cream and count slowly to 10 ;-)
P.S. Treated myself to some flea market shopping today, as a way to de-stress. NOT helpful - I wanted everything in the two stores I visited.
Ha-ha. Can you just not be this way? So funny and sweet.
The first picture in this post is FANTASTIC!
oh good it's not just me.
:)
ugh. i hate feeling that way. it's feel so out of control.
and i want everyone to do what i say.
but then i am still not happy.
i think i'd need more than a root beer.
:)
Oh my. I feel terrible now. If only it were for 24 hours. Usually lasts anywhere from 2 - 5 days!!!!
I see it this way...
PMS + Fiery Redhead Temper=
Hiding in Man Room
It is at these times they are saints. :0)
Great stuff! Thanks for always being so open and honest.
Hilary
You guys are adorable! ~ My grandparents still lovingly bicker and I hope to be just like them after 60 years of marriage!
I think men have some sort of PMS too! Haven't figured it out but I think they do!
Those two pictures and your anecdote cracked me up! Ah, yes, the simple joys of maidenhood...
Oh, yeah. That's me today--and I'm a big blubbery crier which just makes the man go: "What'd I do now?"
My hubby's an angel, too. Truly, madly, deeply love him for his endless patience.
You two are too cute! Just so darn cute I can't stand it!
Girl - just wait til you're pregnant. Matt may need armor or something. (o: Pregnancy is like PMS on major steroids!
And those pictures of ya'll are awesome. YOu should frame them side by side. Love it!
I love that first picture! I've felt the same way this weekend. Your hubby indeed must be a saint. Hope you are feeling better!
Liz -
Hopefully St. Matthew survived the weekend...and you did too!!
mood of blue
Totally crack me up!! Love it!
Matt should teach classes. I would enroll my husband who famously proclaimed during one of my dark days that I was "acting like my mother..."
Yeah, let me know if Matt's going to offer a class.
You are so funny! I was following your blog but stopped because I feel like I'm following every one in the worlds blog and I don't have time to read them all. But yours is so entertaining to read I think I might have to keep following yours and let someone else go. LOL!
