Matt has officially trumped every other good meal he's ever made. Skewered scallops won out. I forgot the rosemary chicken and gnocchi and basil buttered shrimp. Now I dream of scallops.
Meanwhile, the garden has shot up like someone jolted it with electricity. Bright green peppers and basil. Squash, okra, heirloom tomatoes inside prison-like fortresses.
Why all the chicken wire? Raccoons. Apparently, they love tomatoes. And don't get Matt started on how much he hates raccoons. The mere mention of the R word reduces my normally sweet, quiet, easy going hubby into a stomping fizz reminiscent of the dad on A Christmas Story. Hence... the chicken wire.
So far it's working. Fingers crossed.
And we've finally rerouted Mabel out of the cucumbers and cilantro. No more doggy feet crushing the peppermint and broccoli. And all it took was a cheap little plastic fence. Who knew.
And even though these flowers aren't edible, they may be my favorite part of the yard. OK, enough pictures of our plastic-fenced-chicken-wired garden. I'm off to beg Matt into making more citrusy scallops. Recipe to be posted later.

Yummo. I hope my garden is so successful. Im jealous, for sure.
Can't wait for that recipe. They look delicious.
Recipe? I.Cannot.Wait.
The other day I went outside to find Santana with four paws firmly planted in my flower bed, head bent down, feasting on petunias. I didn't even know they were edible! She was quite disgusted with me when I threw a hissy fit and "escorted" her from the flowers.
Your garden looks great! Down here in South Texas everything is drying up. We are in a severe drought! I am picking the last of the little tomatoes. I have to be sure and shut the chicken coop each night or the coons will chicknap my chickens! I've trapped 2 so far.
Blessings,
Lorilee
I would love to just walk through your garden. It looks so beautiful and reminds me so much of the one my mom tended when I was growing up! I can't wait to have my own yard. :)
On a different note - those skewers look amazing!
You are so stinkin' lucky to have a man that cooks! I've got to start getting my hubby out on the grill more often.
Oh I love it!! Your garden looks great and so do those scallops - and I don't even LIKE scallops!!!
Can't wait for the recipe! That looks amazing!
Scallops are one of my favorite foods. Matt's sound delightful. :)
I love that last picture you took of the flower. Beautiful colors.
Beautiful pictures Liz! Your garden is gorgeous, plastic fence, chicken wire and all.
Wow there are so many good looking things in this post I don't know where to start! I can't wait for you to post that recipe, hurry!
Can I vacation at your place?? I'm lovin' it!! :)

We fight rabbits and deer! Your garden looks great. And if I liked scallops, I am sure that recipe would look good too ;) Sure is pretty on the skewers.
My husband has been begging me to make some scallops so I can't wait.
oooh, I cant wait to see the recipe! I've been wanting to do scallops for a while now but haven't found the right recipe! Your garden looks great - I can't believe how big your bell pepper is! Mine is just leaves with no pepper on it :-(
the kabobs look great...nothing better than scallops on the barbie!
have a most wonderful afternoon
I've never had scallops. I'm afraid to. I just know I won't like them. But they LOOK good. Great photos by the way :)
Ooooh I love scallops! I love them with bacon wrapped around them and grilled- Mmmmmm... I wish we had normal weather here for a garden. Everything burns and drys up here in Phoenix!
With your love of decorating and Matt's skills in the kitchen, AND the interest from some of your blogger pals to vacation at your place, you should start a bed and breakfast. That would allow your days to be full of writing. The best of both worlds.
:)
i love orange zinnias. :)
Can't wait for that recipe. Sounds wonderful!
Nothing like a mighty man that can cook (and by cook I do NOT mean mac and cheese). What a love.
That food just looks picture perfect!
Your garden looks lovely - and to have a husband that cooks such yummy things! We couldn't have a garden because of the deer, they eat everything!
It's nearly 12:30 in the morning and I'm hungry for scallops!
You know I get hungry every time I visit you. Matt is amazing, and we could share some raccoon stories with Matt. Jackie
Hi Liz!! I just got caught up on reading your posts, and it cemented how much I absolutely love reading your posts. Your gift for writing and letting your funny take on life always leaves me feeling happy inside.
And Mabel is too dang cute!!
Cheers,
Linda
Your garden looks great. I can't believe you are having so much trouble with raccoons. We live in the middle of about 200+ acres and haven't had any animal trouble with our garden yet.
Your elephant ears below look beautiful. I have mine in the same spot and they seem to love the air conditioner unit.
We are the same way about squirrels. My husband would be about the rabbets too, but I love the little things!
I recently came accross your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I dont know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
