Oregon, Brazil, Whatever. I Miss It.

There are some places that steal our hearts. Locations, towns, winding highways that forever embed themselves into our memories. We frame pictures of them in our hallways, think of them during blah days, dream of them at night. Oregon is this place for me.

We went there last summer. One precious week of lush forests, hiking trails, sand in our shoes, Victorian towns by the Columbia, gelato in downtown Portland.

Whenever I listen to the Pink Martini song Brazil, I think of Oregon. You know how it is, when a certain song catches the memory of a place perfectly. When you find yourself humming it as you commute home through rush hour traffic, dreaming of going to straight to the airport and flying away. Away to Brazil, or Paris, or in my case...Oregon.

So instead of blabbing further, I'll let the lyrics do the talking. And if you haven't heard this song... spring for it on iTunes. It's well worth the 99 cents, and trust me, it will transport you to that your happy place. To your favorite memory. Before you know it, you'll be there again.

Brazil, when stars were entertaining June,
We stood beneath an amber moon

And softly murmured someday soon...
We kissed and clung together

Then - tomorrow was another day
The morning found us miles away

With still a million things to say.
And now when twilight dims the skies above

Recalling thrills of our love

There's one thing I'm certain of...

Return, I will, to old Brazil.

I have told my husband that when we get to go back to the States we should move to coastal Oregon. It just seems so dreamy!

Happy 4th!

My daughter moved to Oregon when she got married in 2003, we moved her out there and visited many times. I loved it there and I know exactly where you took every photo. She is now back in Wisconsin only a 40 minute drive away. :) I am so thankful she gave us the oppurtunity to experience such a beautiful state.

I feel exactly the same way about Oregon and every one of the places you posted in photos. I've been trying to figure out a way to move there for years -- even to the point now of purging things and packing other things so I am ready the second opportunity knocks!

Isn't Oregon AMAZING?!?!?! We're lucky to live so close (it's one of our most common vacation places) and my college roommate and I make yearly trips to Portland just before Christmas to walk, eat, and shop. You should really try to make it that time of year, it's a different beautiful!

The only Pink Martini song I've heard that I liked was Eugene. I'll have to check Brazil out!

What beautiful pictures. Hubs and I were able to spend some time at Haystack Beach quite a few years ago. It is indeed a special place. We stayed at a quaint little inn called Majors Motel. Lovely rooms with a little fireplace. Hope you can get back there soon.

And that's just the beginning of Oregon! We're born, raised and living in Portland. Your pics are great, Liz! The beach is wonderful, the gorge is divine. Eastern, Central and Southern Oregon all have their charms, too--and we've yet to see them all and take photos along the way. Living within a state that has the beach, mountains, deserts, lakes, valleys, farmlands, waterfalls and towns and cities big and small--we're just spoiled!

THIS is a place I've wanted to go for a while. I love the gargantuan rocks that perk up right out of the shallow water! I want to go now!

Wow! Oregon is so beautiful!

It's so funny that the post I set up to publish later tonight is about our summer vacation two years ago. We went to Cape Cod.

I am so with you on the love for the Oregon coast! It's amazing out there. If you happen to go again, check out Hug Point (which is just down the coast from Cannon Beach, but doesn't have as many tourists), it's a nice quiet, secluded beach.
